Barbara was raised in Derry and graduated from Derry Area High School. She is an alumnus of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and taught music in the Ligonier Valley School District for 32 years while living in the Latrobe area. Barbara and her husband, Kent, reside in Unity Township. As a columnist and an advertising sales representative for the Laurel Mountain Post, she feels she has the best of both publishing worlds.
